01.Nine Arch Bridge

One of the highlights in the mountain village Ella is the 30 meter high Demodara Nine Arch Bridge.The stone train bridge, built by British, with its nine beautiful arches, is located between Ella and Demodara station.The train ride in the highland with the Kandy to Ella train is named as one of the most beautiful train rides in the world.

This how world-famous bridge is located just outside of Ella town and one of the same way as little adam’s peak with small 30 minute walk through the woods, you will reach a piece of beautiful architecture hidden between green tea fields.This is one of the things you must do in Sri Lanka.

How to get to the Nine Arch Bridge.

You have multiple options and ways to reach the train bridge.Follow the road towards little Adam’s peak and turn left at the small colored temple.Follow lake front cottage on good maps.

For a more quiet walk in between the jungle, turn left into the jungle at the parking spot after Art cafe umbrella from here. You have to follow the path for about 10 minutes which gives you a unique view over the bridge we highly recommended this path.

Best time to visit the Nine Arch Bridge.

Sunrise is the best time to visit the bridge.The light is stunning and yo avoid the crowds. By 9 am ,it is getting more busy with tourists since it is the start of their day trip tour.

03.Climb up little Adam’s peak.

Little Adam’s peak is the nephew of Adam’s Peak. From the top enjoy the view over the valley, relax and connect with other travelers. From Ella Town to the foot of the mountain takes 45 minutes, and to get to the top around 15 minutes. The first 45 minutes are very pleasing as well when you pass a local village and tea plantations.

Getting a more quiet spot is possible when you walk down and up (5 minutes) to the next hill. There is no actual path but you can get there with a bit of hiking.On your way back, stop at 98 Acres Resort for a coffee or tea with a view.

04.Hike up to the top of Ella rock

If you are up to a bigger challenge, hike to the top of Ella Rock. Little Adam’s peak is a laugh compared to this one. It takes 2 hours to hike from bottom to top. It can be done with a guide or on your own but please make sure you asked the directions from someone you trust, like your guesthouse manager.

Like the name says, this restaurant is very chill and it’s the most popular place in town. They serve different types of food in a great way, Detox Smoothies, Burgers, Pizza’s and the Sri Lankan Lamp rise is a must-try!

• AK- Ristoro

AK Ristoro is a bit out of the main street and has superb fresh pizza, pasta, and sushi. The owner is half Japanse so the sushi is definitely worth a try.

This new Mexican place offers super tasty taco & wraps.

• Adam’s Breeze

Near Little Adam’s Peak is a super tasty Sri Lankan food restaurant. Stop here after you came back from the Nine Arch Bridge or Little Adam’s Peak.

06. Swim at Diyaluma falls,2nd highest waterfall in Sri Lanka

To visit the Diyaluma falls you will probably need the whole day, or at least if you are planning to visit it from the top. About an hour drive out of Ella is the foot of the 2nd highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. Once you have explored the foot, drive 30 minutes more to the top. Hike about 45 minutes and reach a waterfall with many natural pools on different levels.

7. Ella Wala Falls

Ella Wala Falls is a small but beautiful waterfall lying hidden inside the jungle on the Ella – Wellawaya Road. Not the closest waterfall to Ella, but still people go there to enjoy a bath as it got a natural pool like area to have some fun. Nothing like an enchanting waterfall to provide you with a magnificent playground that you can truly enjoy, right?

If you are planning on staying 2-3 days in Ella and got a vehicle, plan a visit to this place, you will enjoy some quality and peaceful time as it's not crowded at all like RAVANA FALLS (You can go on a bus and take a tuk tuk)

We highly recommend the place, if you love water and wanna have some splash time. But be safe on a rainy day as not easy to get some quick help!
